Renew your smile with teeth whitening. The professional whitening treatments available through our dental office deliver dramatic results faster than other methods. Additionally, the results of professional teeth whitening can last for several years before touch-ups are needed. Dr. Dennis Aylward, Dr. Brent Carey, and Dr. Allison Carey, the skilled dentists at Carey & Aylward, DDS in Westland, MI, offer both in-office and take-home professional teeth whitening treatments.

In-Office Whitening

The fastest way to whiten your smile is with in-office professional whitening. It only takes about one hour to achieve maximum results. At the end of your treatment session, teeth will be anywhere from three to eight shades whiter. Plus, not only will your teeth be whiter and brighter immediately after treatment, the results of professional in-office whitening can last for years.

In addition to being the fastest way to whiten your smile, in-office whitening performed by trained and experienced dental professionals is also the safest way to whiten teeth. During treatment, measures are taken to protect sensitive areas, such as the gums and tooth-roots. These areas can become irritated by the bleaching agent in the whitening solution so a protective barrier is used to prevent contact with the whitening gel. This is not necessarily possible with over-the-counter products or whitening services offered outside a dental office.

During treatment, a professional-strength hydrogen peroxide whitening gel is carefully applied to the teeth. The gel is left on for about one hour, during which time it penetrates tooth enamel to target stains and discolorations. The gel is then cleaned off the teeth and you will instantly notice a significantly whiter smile. The dentists at our office Westland, MI, can help you decide if in-office whitening is the best option for you.

Take-Home Whitening

A professional custom take-home whitening kit is a convenient alternative when you are unable to do in-office whitening. A mold is taken of your teeth and used to create two custom mouth trays to be used for whitening at home. Whenever you are ready to whiten, all you need to do is add the professional whitening gel included in your kit to the custom trays. The trays should be worn for about one hour each time. As you repeat the process several times over a few weeks, your teeth will become whiter and brighter.

If you are ready to renew your smile, professional teeth whitening is a great way to do so. The knowledgeable dentists at our office in Westland, MI, can help you decide between in-office and take-home whitening. Both options deliver professional results. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Aylward or Drs. Brent or Allison Carey, call Carey & Aylward, DDS at (734) 425-9130.

Dental implants offer several advantages. One of the biggest advantages is the restoration of your smile through long-term and secure replacement of missing teeth. A dentist can determine if you are a candidate for dental implants as you must have enough bone in the jaw area for placement of an implant. At Carey & Aylward in Seymour, one of our skilled dentists, Dr. Dennis Aylward, Dr. Brent Carey, or Dr. Allison Carey, can tell you if you are a candidate for dental implants.

What are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are a method for replacing missing teeth and restoring your smile. Dental implants consist of a metal implant, an abutment, and a crown. The metal implant is a screw-like post that is placed in the jaw bone. The implant functions as an anchor or root for the crown. The abutment is a small component used to join the crown to the implant. Once all components are in place, only the dental crown will be visible. The crown looks and functions exactly like a natural tooth.

Crowns are used in conjunction with dental implants when a single tooth is being replaced. It is also possible to use dental implants to replace several teeth at once. Multiple dental implants are strategically placed in the jaw bone. Then, depending on the individual patient, either a dental bridge with crowns or an implant-supported overdenture can be placed over the dental implants. One of the knowledgeable dentists at our office in Seymour can discuss restoring your smile with dental implants.

Advantages of Dental Implants

There are several advantages associated with choosing dental implants for restoring your smile. One of the biggest advantages is that dental implants can be used whether you need to replace one missing tooth or several. Another advantage is that dental implants are a long-term solution that can last indefinitely with proper care. Additionally, a dental implant holds artificial teeth securely in place. With dental implants, any worries about your replacement teeth slipping out of place are completely eliminated.

In addition to the many advantages of selecting dental implants for restoring your smile, there are several unexpected benefits, as well. By filling in the gaps caused by missing teeth, dental implants provide additional support for sagging facial muscles, improve speech by correcting the placement of the tongue when speaking, and eliminate excess strain on existing natural teeth that had been compensating for missing ones. Dental implants offer numerous advantages and benefits and our dentists can help you decide if dental implants are right for you.

Visit our office in Seymour and speak to our dentists about how dental implants can restore your smile. You will soon discover the many advantages of dental implants. To schedule an appointment with Dr. Aylward, Dr. B. Carey, or Dr. A. Carey, call Carey & Aylward at (734) 425-9130.

There are a few qualities that make your smile beautiful: tooth color, shape, and alignment. Drs. Carey and Aylward provide their patients with veneers at their Westland, MI, location.

Veneers are thin porcelain covers that are bonded to the surface of natural teeth. The wafer-thin layer is strong, replaces the natural tooth enamel, protective layer of tooth, and provides a natural-looking smile because the non-staining dental porcelain is translucent. tough.

Veneers are made using an advanced technology that requires the removal of a very thin layer of tooth enamel in some cases so veneers are properly aligned. And in other cases, veneers are bonded directly to the surface of natural teeth.

Versatility of Veneers

Veneers are meant to improve teeth characteristics so they are more beautiful:

Color: It's quite natural for teeth can become stained over time by certain foods and beverages, smoking, chewing tobacco, and aging. Veneers replace those yellowed surfaces with a brighter smile.

Size and Shape: Time wears down teeth, especially if you have clenching and teeth-grinding habits. Veneers fix the shape and/or size of your teeth, making them rounder, longer, or flatter.

Alignment and Spacing: Veneers from your dentist make slight corrections in dental alignments and closes small gaps between teeth as a way to improve tooth color and shape.

Creating a New Smile

  • Your Westland, MI, dentist gives you a dental exam to evaluate whether or not you're a good candidate for veneers and ensure you have no serious issues that need resolving first, like decay.
  • Then they'll create a model of your teeth out of wax, acrylic (plastic) or tooth-colored filling material so you can better imagine what your teeth will look like with veneers.
  • A small amount of enamel is removed off the surface of your teeth and molds of your teeth taken to a dental laboratory to create custom-made veneers.
  • You'll receive a temporary set until your permanent veneers are ready.
  • When the permanent veneers come back they'll be cemented onto your teeth.

Woman With Bright White TeethYou could get the brighter smile you want in as little as one in-office whitening treatment.

There are so many different ways to whiten your smile that you may feel a bit confused as to which option to choose. While you could opt for over-the-counter whitening methods, these often take a long time to produce results, often fall short of expectations, and don't last long. Instead, you could turn to our cosmetic dentists in Westland, MI, Dr. Dennis Aylward, Dr. Brent Carey, and Dr. Allison Carey, for a vastly better experience! Read on to learn more about our professional whitening options and how they differ from commercial products and do-it-yourself approaches.

Why are my teeth stained?

There are two types of dental stains: extrinsic (external) and intrinsic (internal):

  • Extrinsic stains are more common kind, and they are caused by the foods/drinks we consume such as coffee, tea, red wine, and tomato sauce.
  • Intrinsic stains, on the other hand, occur under the enamel layer within the dentin. Trauma to the tooth and certain medications (e.g. antibiotics) can lead to these stains.

How does professional teeth whitening work?

Professional teeth whitening is the fastest and most effective way to target both extrinsic and minor intrinsic stains. The bleaching gel that we use contains a very high concentration of peroxide, and it is painted over the front of the teeth to break up stubborn stain molecules within the enamel and dentin layers. The bleaching gel also has the ability to brighten the overall color of your smile.

In as little as one session you may be able to get the brighter results you want. The major benefit of professional whitening is that your results are immediate and significantly visible, which makes it a great option for patients on a time crunch!

Dental VeneersDoes your smile express who you really are, or do defects in tooth color, shape and alignment mar what you say to the world around you? Make a definitive smile statement when you improve your teeth with porcelain veneers from Carey-Aylward Dentistry in Westland, MI. Made from fine, dental-grade ceramic, custom-fabricated veneers disguise a myriad of dental flaws and strengthen your teeth, too. Your smile can improve dramatically!

What are porcelain veneers?

They are specially made ceramic laminates which resurface teeth flawed by spaces, pits, hairline cracks, dark discoloration, congenital defects and more. Cemented on the front side of teeth in the smile zone at the front of the mouth, veneers remake smile aesthetics, and they add a measure of durability, too.

To qualify for veneers, your gums and teeth should be healthy, and your smile goals--realistic. For instance, veneers can correct small gaps and overlapping. However, they cannot re-align smiles which need orthodontic correction. Also, in some cases, a full porcelain crown may be a better choice than a veneer.

Placing veneers

What does placing veneers entail? Once you and Dr. Aylward or Dr. Carey agree on a treatment plan, you'll undergo some mild enamel resurfacing. You may or may not need local anesthetic for this quick process which removes about 1/2 millimeter of enamel from the front side of each tooth. This reduction makes veneers a permanent enhancement but does not affect the strength and health of your teeth.

Additionally, the dentist takes oral impressions which accompany specific instructions for the dental lab. A highly trained ceramist constructs each veneer from color-matched, translucent ceramic. When your dentist bonds the veneers on your teeth, he adjusts the color of the adhesive and ensures the fit and bite of each laminate is perfect.

Life with your new smile

You'll quickly adjust to how your veneers feel inside your mouth. You'll also enjoy how easily you care for your beautified smile. Just brush twice a day with a mild toothpaste and soft brush. Floss once a day to keep your gums and interdental spaces clean, and see Dr. Carey or Dr. Aylward for semi-annual cleanings and examinations or any time you have a concern. But, don't worry. Well cared for veneers last upwards of ten years, says the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
